What is Syngonium plant? 

Syngonium is commonly known as an arrowhead plant, it is famous and well-known for its heart-shaped leaves. The plant gets its name because of the arrow or spade-like leaves which makes it an outstanding houseplant. It’s a perfect houseplant that requires minimal attention to thrive. Syngonium is easily available and has a lot of varieties present. For instance, you can have a pink Syngonium or a green Syngonium, or in white color which is commonly known by the name “white butterfly”.

Syngonium is very easy to grow and quite manageable. There are numerous ways to plant Syngonium in your indoor space and the garden as well. It can be planted in soil or water. It is compatible with both mediums. But there are ways in which you can plant it soil and water, differently.  

To plant it in soil, you need to use potting soil that is rich in nutrients and organic materials. Every plant needs the right environment to grow, without favorable conditions no plant can ever grow.

  1. Take the plant with roots and place it in a pot with good natural soil. 
  1. Make sure that the pot must have a hole on the bottom, so the soil doesn’t get waterlogged.

  1. Allow the soil to dry a bit in between water sessions. It maintains a healthy and hygienic practice for your plant’s health. 

To plant it in water, you need to use water that is free from chloride. You can prefer using filtered water for enhancing the growth of the plant.

  1. Take a healthy plant which have enough stems and leaves. 
  1. Look for leaves that are fully grown and have buds on the stem. 
  1. Cut the stem just below the bud. 
  1. Place it in clean water.  
  1. Remember to change the water once a week.  
  1. You’ll start noticing root growth out of the buds in 9-10 days.  
  1. Allow the roots to grow a little for about 2-3 weeks in water. 
  1. Once you see significant growth in the roots, plant it in soil or water as your preference.

It needs bright sunlight to grow. It is not a fan of shade or dull light. Though it can survive to maintain the greenery and vibrant colors, a minimum of 6 hours of bright indirect sunlight is recommended.  

  • Water for Syngonium  

Allow your plant to dry up between watering sessions. Both over-watering and drying out completely can cause brown leaves. The main reason behind leaves turning yellow or brown on overwatering your plant is that it makes the soil waterlogged which is responsible for blocking the oxygen supply.
