Murder and Rape of Kolkata Doctor Calls for Nationwide Strike

Full story behind Kolkata rape and murder case

The incident took place on the night of 9th August when the second-year postgraduate trainee doctor decided to take some rest around 2 A.m. after having dinner with her juniors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata.

She decided to take a break in the hospital seminal hall as it was crowded everywhere. She thought of this place as safe since it was in the premises of her workplace.

They are several stories going viral over the social media platforms, recently a Facebook audio clip has gone viral claiming a realistic narrative behind the heinous crime.

The clip suggests that the trainee doctor found out about the illegal sex racket and drug racket that has been going on for quite a sometime in the hospital province. She threatened them by exposing them to the police and the principal. The culprits then threatened her by smashing her newly brought car and gave her 36-hour shift to exhaust her completely. The story then follows as there were 4 other interns present at the seminar hall that night having dinner. They all had a fight over something trivial and left the victim alone in the hall.

Later at night, they all came back in a drunken state and tortured the victim in most inhumane way possible. It is said the one-woman intern also helped those drunkards to get on their act. They all tied her hands and stamped on her body with boots resulting in her spine rapture, they broke her pelvic and collar bones. This does not stop here; they bit her nails and skin off then they choked her to death.

The clip claims that the one of the culprits, 33-year-old Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer who is now arrested acted as their scapegoat by raping the dead body to take the blame on their behalf.

There have been many people involved in the case. It is possible that higher authorities may have a hand in it. Many people have claimed that the Kolkata Police has helped the culprits and the higher authorities. The evidences have been washed off, the bathroom where these culprits washed their blood and left strong evidences of their heinous crime have been demolished in the name of renovation.

There have been many speculations made regarding the incident that took place in the RG kar premise. The parents of deceased victim claims that many internal members are involved and there is a different version of the narrative that is to be discovered yet. The father of victim claims that the victim was a doctor on call and yet nobody contacted her for 7 hours.

He added in a statement that, “My daughter left for duty around 8.10 am that day. She was working in the OPD and last spoke to her mother around 11.15 pm. When my wife tried calling her in the morning, the phone rang but went unanswered as my daughter had already passed away by then.”

The court has transferred the case to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) due to the lack of authenticity of reports submitted by the Kolkata police.

Kolkata Police Controversy

Kolkata Police has been in the centre since the beginning of the case. They were even accused of destroying evidences and not handing over the dead body of the victim to her parents and family. But all these baseless rumours came to an end when KP issued an official statement regarding the last rites of the deceased and the false news of victim committing suicide.

Kolkata Police responded on X platform as, “Since points 1 & 2 concern Kolkata Police, we wish to clarify: 1. Reports of KP informing the family about a possible suicide are false. The family confirmed the call did not come from KP. 2. KP didn’t cremate the body of deceased. It was her family who cremated her.”

This heinous crime stirred-up everyone to the very core. Dellow doctors and PGT students are demanding justice and protection for the fellow doctors on duty. It was not something to let go unheard and unanswered by the higher officials. All around India doctors and civilians are joining in the protest to show their support to the deceased and moreover, asking for the justice. They are all demanding a thorough investigation and severe punishment for the culprits.
